SJ Transportation Co., Inc. has a great opportunity for a motivated individual in our Rail Transfer Division. The Rail Transfer Operator’s primary responsibility will be transloading bulk materials from rail to truck and truck to rail in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to operate transloading equipment:
    • air compressor
    • boiler system
    • transfer pumps
    • hand tools
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment:
    • Yard Tractors
    • Passenger Vehicles
    • Forklifts
  • Ability to transload various materials:
    • Hazardous materials
    • Non hazardous materials
    • Petroleum products
  • Prepare and set up for loading and unloading of rail cars
  • Perform rail car inspections
  • Assist with maintenance, clean-up, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to pass a skills/knowledge test on the type of work performing
  • Dependability in attendance required
  • Ability to work overtime when needed
  • Safety conscience mindset
  • Boiler Certification a plus but not required
  • CDL Class A a plus / preferred, but not required

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to be exposed to the outdoor elements
  • Must be physically able to do the following:
    • Climb on and off rail-cars safely
    • Climb on and off tank trucks / ISO containers
    • Operate rail-car hand brakes
    • Walk long distances
    • Consistently bend, stoop kneel and climb on elevated surfaces
    • Work, walk, and stand on uneven surfaces for long periods of time
    • Lift up to 50 lbs consistently throughout the course of a shift
    • Operate basic hand tools
    • Wear required PPE including a respirator

Hours, Pay, Benefits

  • Monday to Friday 40 hour work week, occasional over time
