Antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria is a coordinated, evidence-based approach to ensuring antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines are used appropriately, only when needed, and at the correct dose and duration to treat infections, helping prevent the rise of drug-resistant microbes and protect patient safety. In Nigeria, this initiative involves healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the public working together to improve prescribing practices, strengthen clinical guidelines, expand training and awareness, and reinforce surveillance of resistant organisms across hospitals and communities, making antimicrobial stewardship in Nigeria a key strategy in the national fight against antimicrobial resistance and in safeguarding the effectiveness of life-saving medicines for current and future generations.
